Postpartum Doula Care
The six week postpartum period after the birth of a baby is a significant one for the mother according to Ayurveda. During this time, the physical and subtle physiology of the mother is in a very open and receptive state. It is a rare opportunity to make significant and lasting changes, like a rewiring or rebooting of the physiology into a much more harmonious state of well-being. Postpartum Doula Care home visits include preparation of delicious healing Ayurvedic meals and herbal elixers, Ayurvedic massage using herbal-infused oils, and support with baby care and breastfeeding. Visits last anywhere from 4-6 hours, and are usually scheduled two to three times a week for several weeks. Many mothers say the Ayurvedic Massage is the highlight of the visit. Indeed, the postpartum time is a period when Vata, composed of air and ether elements, needs to be grounded by the heavier, more stabilizing elements of earth and water. Therapeutic touch, along with the qualities of the herbs and the oils, is the best way to ground and pacify aggravated Vata. The Ayurvedic massage works with many levels of the mother's being, easing tight muscles, improving fluid movement and detoxification, nurturing body, mind, and spirit, assisting with the involution of the uterus, and supporting nervous system and hormonal balance.
